£157,000 in National Lottery funding goes to support communities in Ealing to tackle climate change, with focus on reducing waste
Today [25 January], Ealing resident have received the good news that £157,484 in National Lottery funding will support local peopleand communities tackle the climate emergency.
The funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK, will support local charity Action West London to bring climate action to its Acton Market with activities, workshops and events.
The two-year project will bring people from across Ealing and beyond together to learn about how to Recycle, Reuse, Repair and help get residents involved in practical Climate Action events and workshops, such as Ealing Repair Café’s activities and the monthly BikeWorks stall that helps people fix and upcycle their bicycles.
By using Acton Market as a public focus point, Action West London – which has been supporting local employment for over 23 years and recently won a national award for their work bringing people across the community together – will work in partnership with Ealing Council, local community organisations and businesses to reduce the area’s environmental footprint.
Dr John Blackmore, Chief Executive of Acton West London said : “We are delighted to receive this vital funding thanks to National Lottery players. The grant will enable us and our partners to establish a Climate Action Zone at Acton Market where local groups , businesses and organisations can have stalls to promote their Reuse, Repair and Recycle activities. Everyone is welcome to join in.”
Ultimately, Action West London want to bring conversations about the climate crisis to those who wouldn’t normally take part and engage as many people as possible with free stalls for community organisations, local schools, colleges, Universities and all organisations wanting to get practically involved in reducing Waste and Consumption.

This new community funding comes as recent National Lottery research* found one in eight people in London (78%) think local communities are responsible for acting on climate change. Meanwhile, over half (58%) of Londoners are worried about the impact of climate on their local community.
Thanks to National Lottery players, 21 community-led waste and consumption focused projects across the UK are today receiving funding from the Climate Action Fund – a £100 million fund that aims to reduce the carbon footprint of communities and support community-led movements that demonstrate what is possible when people take the lead in tackling climate change.
Since 2016, thanks to National Lottery players, we have awarded £397 million through more than 6,000 grants which involve environmental action, including action on waste and consumption, energy, transport, food and the natural environment. National Lottery players raise £30 million each week across the UK for good causes.
